Occupational First Aid Course Outline
Course Aim
To provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge in order to perform the role and responsibilities of an industrial Occupation First Aider as defined by State or Territory legislation.
Course Objective
This training is suitable for individuals, companies and organizations, and will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to make them confident and competent to perform the specific requirements of Occupational First Aid.
Prerequisites
- This course is for currently qualified first aid certificate holders (Lvl 2).
- The course is for those employed, or intended to become employed, as an industrial Occupational First Aider.
- Minimum age of 16 years is recommended
Learning Outcomes
- Define the respective legislative requirements for OFA in the workplace.
- Define the principles of first aid, with emphasis on the industrial situation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic human anatomy.
- Demonstrate casualty examination using advanced first aid assessment techniques.
- Demonstrate the assembly, preparation and use of a selected oxygen resuscitation device.
- Demonstrate the performance of effective CPR and expired air resuscitation, both with and without the use of an oxygen resuscitation device.
- Identify, and provide first aid management for, a range of common illnesses and injuries.
- Identify, and provide first aid management for, injuries and illnesses associated with specific industrial first aid situations.
- Select and demonstrate casualty handling techniques appropriate to the industrial situation.
- Explain and demonstrate correct completion of the documentation required for casualty management in the industrial situation.

- Three years. Annual refreshers recommended.
