Target Group
This Emergency Medical Technician program is designed for participants wishing to gain a Certificate IV in Emergency Medical Response equipping them with advanced medical skills and knowledge.

Course Prerequisites
Apply Basic First Aid (HLTFA1A) or equivalent
Competencies Gained
- Identify and manage emergency situation and hazards to health and safety of self and others.
- Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
- Assess the situation and manage risks and hazards.
- Recognise and respond to life threatening emergencies.
- Instigate the emergency action plan and manage incidents in a variety of settings.
- Assess the casualty and identify injuries, illnesses and conditions.
- Identify and manage life threatening conditions.
- Identify and manage trauma.
- Identify and manage medical conditions.
- Introduction to the emergency medical system.
- Perform health assessment practice for application in the emergency medical services system.
- Move and lift casualties using safe manual handling techniques as required.
- Administer oxygen and ventilation techniques as required.
- Perform initial emergency medical assessment, primary and secondary examination of a casualty.
- Provide reports according to established procedures.
- Assist the casualty with self administration of medications according to established policy and procedures.
- Undertake advanced airway management according to established policy and procedures.
- Undertake intravenous fluid therapy according to established policy and procedures.
- Manage multiple casualty incidents using triage.
